SKOWHEGAN -- Warren Corson Sr., 86, of Skowhegan went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at his home surrounded by his children who, also cared for him as he wished throughout his illness.
He was born in Athens on May 4, 1918, the son of late Martin Corson Jr. and Lucy (Avery) Corson of West Athens.
He entered the Army 82nd Airborne, Division Glider Corps., on Dec. 9, 1940. He served in the Pacific theater during World War II. He was honorably discharged on Feb. 23, 1945, with the rank of Private First Class. He earned the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with one service star, Good Conduct Medal, and the American Defense Service Metal.
On March 14, 1953, he married the former Phyllis B. (Kenney) Corson and they had shared 50 years together before she went to be with her Lord on July 30, 2003.
Warren retired from Fafner Bearing Co., where he was a finish grinder in New Britain, Conn. Later he moved back to Skowhegan.
Warren loved being with his family. He enjoyed woodworking where a lot of his work would be in his children's homes for display. He made a lot of the shelves in his house, and also would make lamps out of popsicle sticks. He loved vegetable gardening, and canning, and had passed his secrets of gardening and canning to his children. Warren loved doing crafts and quilting with his wife before she passed away. His family always came first.
He was predeceased by his wife; a granddaughter, Wendy Corson; siblings Daisy, Mittie, Marshall, Cecil, Cynthia, Earl, Ralph, Orrin, Henery, Ruby, and Wendall "Wendy."
He is survived by his five children, Warren Corson Jr. and his wife, Renee, John Henery Corson and his wife, Sylvia, Deborah Lynn Corson Rock, David Warren Corson and Barbara Phyllis Corson Whittemore and her husband, Michael; daughter-in-law, Robin Corson; a sister, Sarah "Sally" and a brother, Edward; grandchildren, Amy Cormier, Warren Corson, III, John Stafford, Jamie Stafford, Aaron Bonneau, Laurie Hebert, Nicole Whitman, Megan Corson, Andrew Corson and Brandon Whittemore; great-grandchildren Peter Cormier Jr., Phillip Cormier, Joey Cormier, Warren Corson IIII, Wyatt Hebert, Chantel Corson-Rock, and Hunter Corson; a special uncle and aunt, Bill and Ruth Landry; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He also leaves behind many close and dear friends in Maine and Connecticut.
There will be no visiting hours.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at Mount Rest Cemetery in Athens.
