Son of Orlando Murphy and Mary A. Truitt Murphy who resided at R.F.D. 2, Dagsboro, Delaware.

Horace, who was born in Delaware and resided in Harris County, Texas, served as a Private First Class with the anti-aircraft artillery, U.S. Army during World War II.

He enlisted in the Army on April 14, 1943 in Huntington, West Virginia. He was noted as being employed as a Farm Hard and as Divorced, without dependents.

He was killed by an exploding shell during training at Camp Stewart, Georgia during the war.
