Thomas Brand, Retired Rock Island Engineer, Dies
Thomas Brand, about 80, retired Rock Island engineer formerly of here, died at 2:30 a.m. yesterday in a Cedar Rapids hospital following a long illness. His body will be brought back to Estherville tomorrow and funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Sternborg chapel, the Rev. H. Hughes Dill officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. Mr. Brand was employed as a Rock Island engineer for 52 years, retiring in 1939. Surviving his death are his widow, Mary Ellen; a daughter, Mrs. L. P. Fourault of Cedar Rapids; a son, Merle, of Chicago; and three grandchildren. Pall bearers will be Joe Paul, Mike Kelly, Harold Wittern, Carl Skog, Frank Campisano and C. V. Kilgore. Friends may call at the Sternborg funeral home from 11 a.m. tomorrow up to time of services at 1 p.m. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 4, 1954)

Thomas Brand, 374 Fifteenth street SE, engineer for the Rock Island railway 52 years, until his retirement in 1939, died in a Cedar Rapids hospital at 2:30 a.m. Monday after a long illness. He was born at Iowa Falls.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ellen; a daughter, Mrs. L.P. Foucault of Cedar Rapids; a son, Merle, of Chicago, and three grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Brady mortuary after 7 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral announcement will be made later.
