Thomas Brand, about 80, retired Rock Island engineer formerly of here, died at 2:30 a.m. yesterday in a Cedar Rapids hospital following a long illness. His body will be brought back to Estherville tomorrow and funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Sternborg chapel, the Rev. H. Hughes Dill officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. Mr. Brand was employed as a Rock Island engineer for 52 years, retiring in 1939. Surviving his death are his widow, Mary Ellen; a daughter, Mrs. L. P. Fourault of Cedar Rapids; a son, Merle, of Chicago; and three grandchildren. Pall bearers will be Joe Paul, Mike Kelly, Harold Wittern, Carl Skog, Frank Campisano and C. V. Kilgore. Surviving are his wife, Mary Ellen; a daughter, Mrs. L.P. Foucault of Cedar Rapids; a son, Merle, of Chicago, and three grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Brady mortuary after 7 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral announcement will be made later.
