Pete was the second born of the grandchildren of Charles Harris & Otie Eva Kerr Austin of Culleoka Tennessee. He was the son of Homer Harris Austin Sr. & Margaret Louise (Young) Austin. He was a Metro-Nashville Teacher for a time and eventually became a Company representative for Olan Mills traveling around the south.

Homer Harris Jr. "Pete" had a brain tumor that would have taken his life. The cancer started in his lungs. He was not a heavy smoker, but did use tobacco. On 25 Feb 2005 Cousin "Pete" ended his life. He was in a lot of pain and this was thought to be the motivating factor.

Pete Austin never married. After his parents' departing he lived alone in his home on Hillsboro Pike. In his youth Pete was talented and a nice looking gentleman. He grew up as a typical son of a prominent minister. I am not sure why he chose to live life without a mate, but he was generally introverted and a perfectionist. These are a couple of traits that could be anyone's downfall or success when it comes to the ups and downs of family life.

In looks he favored his great granddaddy Joseph J. Kerr who was also known to be studious and introverted but a family man.

Pete was a person with a keen wit and winning smile. He and his younger brother Don were two clowns who spelled trouble when together at gatherings. During the numerous family reunions their actions they kept everyone chuckling from their humor and mischievous acts.

Cremated - ashes were scattered over his parents grave at Spring Hill Cemetery, Gallatin Road, Nashville Tn.

Wayne Austin
