MEADE COUNTY MESSENGER OBITUARY - 11/23/1967
Mrs. Anna H. Dodge Heiberg, 90, daughter of Harrison Howell Dodge III, the Mount Vernon superintendent for 52 years, died Tuesday, November 14, 1967 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center after a brief illness. Drawing on her father's personal diary and memoirs of his career at George Washington's home, she recently made tape recording which were used in the book, "Mt. Vernon The Legacy" by Elswyth Thane. A native Washingtonian, Mrs. Heiberg attended private school in Georgetown. In 1899 she married Army Maj. Elvin Ragnvald Heiberg, military attache to the US Embassy in Rome. He died there in 1917. Mrs. Heiberg was honorary past president of the Washington chapter of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America and a member of the Society of companions of the Sacred Heart and St. John's Episcopal Church. She leaves a daughter, Mrs. Eleazar Parmly, 2006 Columbia Rd. NW, with whom she lived; 2 sons, Ret. Army Col. Harrison H.D. Heiberg of Doe Valley Park, Brandenburg, KY, and Army Col. Elvin R., a professor at the US Military Academy at West Point; 8 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Services were at St. John's Episcopal Church, Lafayette Square. Burial was at West Point, NY. Mrs. Heiberg had recently visited her son and wife at Brandenburg. She had received an invitation to Lynda Johnson's and Capt. Robb's wedding at the White House, which she would have enjoyed attending.
