Mr. Thomas Heflin Cleveland
Funeral service for Mr. Thomas Hefflin Cleveland, 95, of Alexander City, will be Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Hackneyville Baptist Church. Rev. Carey Brown and Rev. Bill Middlebrooks will officiate. Judge Ray Martin will also be speaking. Mr. Cleveland will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park with veteran honors provided by the Alexander City Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 17, 2010 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home.
Mr. Cleveland passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at his residence. He was born on March 17, 1915 in Tallapoosa County, Alabama to Joseph Asbury Cleveland and Savannah Georgia Nelson Cleveland. He was an active member and deacon at Hackneyville Baptist Church. Mr. Cleveland loved music and enjoyed playing the string instruments. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He was very proud of his time that he served in North Africa and Italy. He graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute, now known as Auburn University and received his B.S. Degree in Agriculture Engineering. He worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a real estate appraiser and retired in 1973. He was a very loving gentleman and could get along with everyone.
He is survived by his daughters, Merry Lucinda Wynn (Gary) of Stone Mountain, GA and Janey Washburn (Phil) of Alexander City; grandsons, James Thomas Cox of Alexander City and Tracy Wynn (Elaine) of Gainesville, FL; great-grandchildren, Savannah Wynn, Rebecca Wynn, Tori Washburn, Gage Washburn, Bella Washburn and Ava Washburn; brothers, Ben Cleveland (Beth) of Alexander City and Robert Lee Cleveland of Alexander City; sisters, Lucille Osborne (James) of Alexander City, Myrtice Cotney of Davidson, NC and Betty Gilbert of Alexander City; special caretaker, Wilbert Thomas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Margaret King Cleveland.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be given to the charity of one's choice.
