Derrell Buren Stephenson, 81, of Crossett died Tuesday, September 7, 2010. Born on June 15, 1929, in Portland to Clarence B. and Audrey Mae Johnson Stephenson, he was an United States Navy veteran. He enjoyed gardening and selling his vegetables and was a member of Jarvis Chapel Baptist Church.



Survivors include his daughter, DeAnna Knight; one sister, Margie Carter; two brothers, Aubrey Stephenson and Floyd Stephenson, all of Crossett; two step-grandchildren, Michael Knight of Crossett and Julie Gardner of Monticello; and two step great-grandchildren, Brayson Knight of Crossett and William Gardner of Monticello; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Magdalene Carter Stephenson; a son, Jerrell "Squirrel" Stephenson; one sister, Opal Hartness; and one sister-in-law, Faylene Tucker.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, September 10, at Jarvis Chapel Baptist Church with Bros. Mike Griffith and Kenneth Johnson officiating.

Pallbearers were Earl Carter, Ron Tucker, Steve Hartness, Randy Townley, David Stephenson, Greg Stephenson, Garry Ray Carter, Michael E. Carter, Alan Stephenson, Boyett Goodwin and Owen Carpenter. Honorary pallbearers were Zach Goodwin, Mason Goodwin, Dillon Pence, Michael Knight, Bubba Gardner, Brayson Knight, William Gardner, Kerry Hartness, Glen Michael Carter, Robert Alan Carter and Jessie Smith.

Burial followed at the Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett. Guest book at www.jonesservice.com.
