Cheryl L. Benson, 49, died Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI. Cheryl was born December 17, 1959, in Linton, ND, to Jake and Marlene (Baumgartner) Walther. She married Steve Benson on July 25, 1992, in Winona, MN. Cheryl worked as a medical secretary at Winona Community Memorial Hospital for 17 years. She loved spending time with family and friends. Survivors include her husband, Steve; four children, Trisha (Steven) Mackey of Lubbock, TX, Michelle Hoffman of Eden Prairie, MN, Samuel Benson and Mackenzie Benson both of Winona, MN; three grandchildren, Alexander, Abbigail and Nola; parents, Jake and Marlene Walther of Winona, MN; sister, Jackie (Greg) Gabbert of Winona, MN; several nieces and nephews; and a wonderful group of friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents.A celebration of Cheryl's life will be on Saturday, December 12th, at noon, at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service Hansen Goodview Chapel with funeral celebrant John Wagenaar officiating. Burial will take place a later date in Woodlawn Cemetery in Winona. Friends may call from 9:00am until the time of service at the funeral home on Saturday.
