Brief Illness Takes Butcher In Chester

W. C. Allison, 78, Dies Sunday In Fourth St. Home

W. C. (Butcher Bill) Allison, 78, first meat dealer in Chester, died in his home in Fourth st., Chester, Sunday at 10:10 a.m. following a two week illness. Mr. Allison was a life - long resident of Hancock county and as born near Chester Sept. 30, 1859, a son of James and Susan Allison. He worked at the butchering trade for nearly 60 years, and conducted a shop in East Liverpool before opening a business in Virginia ave., on the site of the present Goddard bakery when Chester was founded about 40 years ago. His last place of employment was in the F. E. Werkheiser shop, from which he retired about six years ago. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Emma Allison; two sons, Clark and William James Allison of East Liverpool; two sisters, Mrs. Isaphina Roudebush and Mrs. Bell Ray, both of Carrollton, and two step-sons, Everett Severs of near Chester and Raymond Severs of California. Funeral services will be held in the Chester Methodist Episcopal church Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in charge of Rev. Josiah D. Osmond, the pastor, assisted by Rev. C. C. Hanks, pastor of the First Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be in Long's Run cemetery near Calcutta. Friends may call at the home Monday or Tuesday night.

Josiah D. Osmond, the pastor, assisted by Rev. C. C. Hanks, pastor of the East Liverpool Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be made in the Flats cemetery at Pughtown. Active pall bearers will include Joseph Seevers, Arthur Steadman, Cecil Allison, Edward Huff, Rowland Rogers and Orin Ray. Honorary pallbearers will be Elmer Wehner, Fred Werkheiser, Joseph Davis, Elmer Allison, Charles Ewing and John Cunningham. Friends may call at the Allison home tonight.

W. C. Allison, 78, of Chester, died at his home on Fourth street at 10:10 Sunday morning, after a two week's illness. He was born September 30th, 1859, the son of James and Susan Allison. He was for years engaged in the meat market business. He is survived by his widow and two sons, Clark and William James, of East Liverpool, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Isaphine Roudabush and Mrs. William Ray of Carrolton, Ohio, two stepsons, Everett Sivers of Hancock county and Raymond Sivers of California, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for the retired Chester butcher were held in the Chester M. E. church Wednesday at 8 p.m., in charge of Rev. Josiah D. Osmond, the pastor, assisted by Rev. C. C. Hanks, pastor of the East Liverpool Church of the Nazerene. Burial was made in the Flats cemetery at Pughtown. Active pallbearers included Joseph Seevers, Arthur Steadman, Cecil Allison, Edward Huff, Rowland Robers and Orin Ray. Honorary palbearers were Elmer Wehner, Fred Werkheiser, Joseph Davis, Elmer Allison, Charles Ewing and John Cunningham.
