Mrs. Nancy Derry Passes Away Today
Had Been Near Death Several Days; Was Ill Nearly One Year
Mrs. Nancy Derry, 83, widow of James Derry, died at 3:30 o'clock this morning at her home one mile east of Mount Zion. She had been ill nearly a year with heart disease and dropsy. She had been near death for several days.
Born in Hancock county, June 9, 1840, Mrs. Nancy Derry was a daughter of David and Mary Curry Kingen. Her marriage to James Derry took places during the civil war and they came to the Mt. Zion community to reside 50 years ago. Mr. Derry died June 10, 1898.
Surviving are five children: John Derry, of Van Buren; Frank, of Mt. Zion; Kelley, of Lawrenceville, Ill.; Mrs. George Helms, of Bluffton, and Mrs. Fannie Huffman, who lived with her mother. A daughter, Ella Jamison, is deceased. A brother, Samuel Kingen, lives at Greenfield, Ind.
The funeral service will be held Sunday and burial will be in the Jones cemetery. The exact time and place of the service have not been decided.
