Bucyrus Crash Kills Two Limaites

Two Others Die; Four Hurt In Collision

Kenneth E. Baum, Infant Daughter Among Victims

Two members of a Lima family were killed and three others critically injured in a two-car four-fatality accident at 6:45 a.m. Saturday, three miles east of Bucyrus on Route 30-N.

The Lima dead definitely were identified by state highway patrolmen as: Kenneth E. Baum, 34, of 1207 S. Main-st and his 3 1/2-year-old daughter, Irma.

In Bucyrus City hospital with fractured skulls are: Baum's widow, Martha, 30, and their two sons, Wayne, 11, and Jack, 9, and Salvatore Dagostino, 65, Mrs. Baum's stepfather. All were reported in critical condition at noon Saturday.

Also killed in the accident were Marine Sgt. William J. Houck, 23, Holgate, and Cpl. Lea McTurnan, 24, Route 1, Parker, Ind.

Officers said the car driven by Houck, traveling west on the highway, skidded on the wet pavement and collided with the Lima car, driven by Baum. The Baum car struck the Houck car broadside.

Both Baum and Dagostino were employed by the Ohio Steel Foundry Co.

Friends in Lima said they believed the family was on a fishing trip.

The bodies have been taken to Bucyrus funeral homes.

Baum's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Baum, Route 1, had no knowledge of the accident Saturday morning.
