Jessie Mae Fleming was born in Georgia on October 13, 1905 to John M. and Ethel Wilson Fleming. She was the Fleming's second child, a sister Veta Nell was born in 1903. In 1906 Veta passed away leaving Jessie Mae to be the only child of John M. and Ethel Wilson Fleming, she did have an older half sister, Lillian, daughter of John M. and his first wife Eva Marie Steadman Fleming but Lillian lived w/ her grandparents, John's parents in TN and Jessie lived w/ her parents in Georgia plus the 10 years age difference so the girls really didn't have a chance to know each other very well growing up. Sometime before the 1910 Coffee County, Tennessee census where John, Ethel and Jessie Mae are found back in TN and the death of her father in 1912 the family moved back to TN from Ga. Then sometime between 1912 when her father died and the 1920 census report of Charleston, South Carolina, John M. Fleming's widow, Ethel took Jessie Mae and moved in with Jessie's grandfather, Ethel's father, Marion Wilson who also was a widow. But Jessie's heart must have not been in South Carolina as when she married Guy James she made her back home as they were found in the 1930 census in Rutherford County, Tennessee where Jessie remained a resident the rest of her 71 years of life. She is the granddaughter of John Hamilton "Ham" and Rachel Homan Fleming and Marion and Mary Coogle Wilson all who are buried in the Oakwood Cemetery in Tullahoma, Coffee County, Tennessee along with her Uncle Harry Clinton and Aunt Sylvia Carey Fleming and her cousin Hubert Carey Fleming and her parents John and Ethel. It is not known as to when Guy James passed away or whether he is buried near her but they were the parents of Guy James, Jr. who died in 2009 and is also buried in this cemetery.
