ANNA - Donald R. Brandt, 90, of 10444 State Route 274, died on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, at 6:42 a.m. at his residence.

He was born on April 13, 1920, on the family farm near Kettlersville. He was the son of Gustav R. and Emma C. (Kettler) Brandt. On Oct. 16, 1943, he married Alvina (Heiland) Brandt and she survives near Kettlersville.

Also surviving are his sons, Jim (Jill) Brandt, of Anna, and Jon (Jackie) Brandt, of North Carolina; his grandchildren, Julie Baumer, of Hilliard, Jennifer (Kevin) Shoffner, of Anna, Jason (Cheri) Brandt, of Wapakoneta, Melissa Brandt, of North Carolina, and Ryan (Laura) Brandt, of North Carolina; and his great-grandchildren, Madison and Ross Baumer, Avery and Carson Shoffner and Landon and Ethan Brandt.

Preceding him in death was his son, Ron Brandt, great-grandson, Griffin Brandt and his brothers, Karl and Luther Brandt.

Mr. Brandt was a member of the St. Jacob Lutheran Church in Anna. He was a lifelong member of the Shelby County Farm Bureau, a 50-year member of the F. & A. M. Stokes Lodge 305, of Port Jefferson, a member of the Antioch Shriners, of Dayton, and a past member of the Shelby County Fair Board.

He was a 1938 graduate of Anna High School. He was a lifelong farmer, raising sheep and training border collies for herding and was a Nationwide Insurance representative for 30 years.

Funeral services will be on Monday, Sept. 20, 2010, at 10 a.m. at the St. Jacobs Lutheran Church in Anna with the Rev. Michael Althauser officiating. Burial will be in the Willow Grove Cemetery, New Bremen.

Calling hours will be on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen and on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of the services at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church memorial fund, the Anna Rescue Squad or to the Kettlersville/Van Buren Township Fire Dept.
