Carol Jean Collins, 51, went to be with her Lord on the 1st day of September, 2001. Carol was born on December 8, 1949, to Melvin and Eula Gunnels at Gorman, TX. Graveside services were held Tuesday, Sept. 4, at the Rising Star Cemetery, directed by Abilene Funeral Home. A private family memorial service is pending.
She had been a resident of Abilene for over 40 years, working at the Abilene State School as a Licensed Vocational Nurse for over 23 years. She was preceded in death by her father, Melvin A. Gunnels and an infant daughter, Tammy Renee Collins.
Survivors include her son, Jeffery Paul Collins, and wife, Dana, of Abilene; her mother and stepfather, Eula and Gene Rhodes of Cross Plains; a sister, Neet Moore and husband, Kenneth, of Abilene; a brother, Melvin R. (Bunky) Gunnels of Bowie, TX; and two granddaughters, April and Kendra Collins of Abilene; and other family members and friends who loved her.
