Dad had been in the hospital in May and when he recovered I bought him tickets for the summer NHRA race in Denver. He was so excited that he scouted out the location and planned to be there before the gates opened! After his death I learned that he had called his friends, told his neighbors, and even called the nurses at the senior medical center to tell them he was going to the races.
When I couldn't reach him the afternoon of the race or the next day, I called Denver police. Unfortunately, dad didn't make it to the races, but I'm glad I was able to make him so happy before he passed. Still, I wish he'd been able to attend one more race.
Not many children get the chance to make their parent so happy -- just before they pass. I'm truly lucky. His community is saddened and all who knew him said he was a good guy. He's missed.
