Sarah "Salley" Wheeler was the daughter of Samuel Harrison Wheeler (1754-1817) and Sarah "Salley" Laughter (b 1756). Some people have her erroneously listed as the daughter of John Wheeler and Susannah Clark.

Sarah Wheeler Hill was born in the Cathey's Creek community near Round Hill Church in Lincoln County (now Rutherford) NC. Her sister, Mary (Polly) Wheeler married Shadrach Nanney on Jan 11, 1804. Nanney settled on land at Cathey's Creek near Union Mills, NC. Samuel Wheeler married Elizabeth Garrett November 15, 1792 in Rutherford County.
