William, who resided at 821 East Twenty-Sixth Street, Wilmington, Delaware, served as a Corporal, Battery A, 75mm PK How. Battalion, 4th Marine Reinforcements, 1st Provisional Brigade, U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

He died in the "Line Of Duty" in the Marianas Islands of an accidental death during the war. He had served in the Marines for one year and eleven months at the time of his death.
