Captain George Weeks, an old soldier and pioneer settler of Dane county, died at his home in Marshall Monday evening at 10 o'clock. Captain Weeks was well known throughout Dane county, having been prominent in republican party councils and having been chosen by his party to many offices of trust. George Weeks was born in Brownville, NY Dec. 1, 1836 and came to York, Dane county, WI in 1852. He served as supervisor of the town and in 1872 was elected town chairman. He enlisted in the 29th Regiment of Wisconsin volunteers in 1862 and served in all the engagements of the Army of the Potomac. He was promoted to the captaincy of his company. He was elected a member of the assembly in 1872. About 20 years ago he was elected Sheriff of Dane county. Later on he was warden at the state penitentiary at Waupun. Six years ago he was injured while out driving and never recovered from the injuries he received. Since the accident he has been an invalid and although he was unable to move he was cheerful to the end. He leaves a wife and the following children; Mrs. J. W. McElroy, Mrs. John Slatter, Miss Hallie Weeks, John Weeks and Miss Fay Weeks. The funeral was held at Marshall at 10 o'clock this morning.
