John Etbauer, 91, of Ree Heights, passed away, Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, Kansas.

Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Stephan with Father Joseph Dean officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Cemetery, rural Ree Heights. A prayer service will be 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 17, 2010 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Miller.

He was born September 17, 1918 in Hand County, South Dakota to Edmund "Ed" Etbauer and Elizabeth "Bessie" Etbauer. He was one of seven children, he being the only son. John attended grade school at the Koc School and then continued to South Dakota State Aggie School in Brookings.

John was united in marriage to Gladys Puffer on Wednesday, November 27, 1941 at the Cedar Catholic Church and resided at their farm where they raised their two children. John was active in the Ree Heights CO-OP, Ree Heights Rural Electric Co., Catholic Church and legislation that affected rural living.
He and Gladys proudly raised Hereford cattle, farmed and especially enjoyed family and friends for visits to the farm. Four generations have been raised on the farm.

John and Gladys resided at their home until Gladys' health moved them into the assisted living in Miller. John continued to live in Miller until May 2010 when he moved to Eureka, Kansas to be closer to his daughter and family.

He is survived by two sisters: Marion Antonidies of Brookings, SD and Ellen Koc of White Bear Lake, MN; two children: Lyle Etbauer of Moorcroft, WY and Joy Jensen of Eureka, KS; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gladys; and four sisters: Elizabeth, Gladys, Loretta and Laura.

In lieu of flowers, the familiy request memorials be directed to the Highmore Healthcare Center, 410 8th Street SE, Highmore, SD 57345.
