George R. Bull, former resident of this village, died at his home in Madison, Tuesday, Dec. 7. He had been ill for some time. Mr. Bull was born in Burke township, Feb 6, 1862 and was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William G. Bull, early settlers of Dane County. At the age of two years he came with his parents to this village, and Sun Prairie and vicinity were his home until about 22 years ago when he moved to Madison. A printer by trade, he learned the art of printing here in the Countryman office and worked in this office for several years. In 1896, he purchased the half interest of Fred Rockwood, in the firm on Dunphy and Rockwood, owners and publishers of the Country, and the firm name was known as Dunphy & Bull. In June, 1900 he sold his interest in the paper to James Melville, and tried his hand for a few years at farming. But for the most part his life was spent at the printer's trade. During his life in this village he took an active part in the affairs of the village. He was a charter member of the fire department and one of the leaders in promoting a village band. After the death of his father, W. G. Bull, he was appointed Justice of the Peace to fill out the unexpired term of his father and was reelected to that office which he held for several terms. He is survived by his wife, the former Margaret Hammond; three daughters, Eleanor (Earl) Flanagan of Denver, CO, Mary (Milo) Ivey, Lyman, CO, Winifred (N. C.) Nash, Cleveland, OH; three sons, Warren Bull of Madison, Lt. Clayton Bull, Fort Hayes, OH, Dr. W. E. Bull, St. Louis, MO; 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Fitch-Fawrence Funeral Home, Madison with Rev. Allen Eddy officiating and burial will be made in the Sun Prairie Village Cemetery.
