Obituary from the "Hancock County Democrat" of Garner, Iowa dated 20 Dec 1900:
Gone Home
Died - Saturday December 15, of old age, Mrs. Cynthia Ocain, aged 82 years, 8 months and 10 days. The death occurred at the residence of her daughter Mrs. L. B. Bailey. The funeral was held at the home Monday at 2:00 p.m. and the remains laid to rest in the Concord Cemetery.
Cynthia Smith was born in Tompkins county, New York September 5, 1818. In 1840 she married Isaac Ocain. In 1842 they came to the west and settled in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Later they moved to Saxeville, Waushara county, where they resided until the time of Mr. Ocain's death. Since that time Mrs. Ocain has made her home with her children; the last nine years with her daughter Mrs. L. B. Bailey.
Mrs. Ocain's life was full and complete where many women lack. First of all she was a mother. Her entire time was devoted to the proper raising and education of her children. To make others happy was her aim. Her habits were such that she infused true principles of manhood and womanhood into all with whom she came in contact. Her children's sorrows were her sorrows. She was not only their mental director but their playmate and comforter. Her grand-children were always a source of enjoyment to her and each and everyone was sure to get a Christmas present from her every year. They idolized and will miss their grandmother.
Mrs. Ocain was the mother of six children, two of whom are dead. One died when it was eighteen months old - another the youngest, Hattie Price, died at Crystal Lake, Iowa, in '82. The living are Mrs. L. B. Bailey, Garner, Mrs. Minor Williams and Mrs. Benjamin Williams of White Earth, N. Dakota and George Ocain of Hancock, Wisconsin.

Children:
(1) Frances Amelia Ocain
(2) George W Ocain
(3) Ellen Ocain
(4) Harriet Ocain
(5) Ella Ocain
