  • Birth 17 Apr 1843 Germany
  • Death 23 Feb 1847 Nevada County, California, USA
  • Burial Body lost or destroyed, Specifically: Rescued by the 1st Relief, Ada died on the trail
  • Memorial ID 58737621

A member of the Donner/Reed Party.
Little Ada, aged 3 years, was rescued, along with her mother, Philippine, by the 1st Relief. Philippine carried her daughter as long as her arms had strength. When she could no longer carry her, she offered a gold watch and twenty-five dollars to anyone who would carry Ada, but there were no takers. The mother marched on, but later it was evident the daughter could no longer hold out. She died somewhere in the area of the Yuba Bottoms.

Reason Tucker took little Ada's body, laid it in the snow and covered it the best he could. He later wrote, "Her sperrit went to heaven, her body to the wolves."

Note: Ada was a twin to another daughter of Lewis & Phillipine named Mathilde Elise. The twins were barely a year old when the family came to America from Germany. Little Mathilde died two months after they arrived.
