A member of the Donner/Reed Party.
Baylis was a hired man who worked for the Reed family, along with his sister, Eliza Williams. Little is known about him, but he is described by several survivors as an albino who worked by night and slept by day.
Billy Graves, who was seventeen at the time, remembered that Williams lost his mind and eventually "was insane."
On the evening of Dec. 15, Williams died in the Graves/Reed cabin. He was the first to die at the Lake Camp.
