Rachel Hattie Luelling was born on 10 Mar 1837 in Salem, Henry County, Iowa. She was the fourth child of William Henderson Lewelling [Henderson Luelling] and Jane Elizabeth Presnall. She went by the name "Hattie" much of her life. In 1847 at age 10, she traveled to Oregon with her family in a wagon train, and they settled near present day Milwaukie, Oregon. Hattie was 13 when her mother died, and her home life was disrupted. She married Seth William Eddy in Milwaukie, Clackamas County, Oregon Territory, on 23 Feb 1853 at age 15.

Hattie and Seth remained in Milwaukie when most of Hattie's family moved to Alameda County, California, in 1854, and they had a son born that year. A few years later, they moved to Jefferson County, New York, to the area of the family home of Seth, and a daughter was born there. The marriage soon dissolved and by mid-year 1860 Hattie and her baby daughter were in Alameda County, California, with living some of her
siblings. On 01 Jul 1860, Hattie married Henry Charles Wilson, and together they had another daughter and a son.

Hattie and Henry lived in the area of San Francisco, California, the rest of their lives. Hattie died on 06 May 1919 in Oakland, Alameda County, California, at age 82.
