Sherman S. Shifflett, 77, of 1516 Lyndhurst Road, Waynesboro, died at 2:15 am Monday 27 April 1992 in King's Daughters' Hospital. He was born 11 May 1914 in Albemarle County, a son of Benjamin and Gernie Coleman Shifflett. He was an Army veteran of WWII where he served with the 370th Field Artillery Battalion, 99th Division in the European theater. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Theater Ribbon and the WWII Victory Ribbon. He was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church and retired from the Crompton Company. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife, Rosa R. Shifflett; one step-daughter, Helen R. Frank of Waynesboro; one sister, Pearl Bruce of Crimora; one brother, Henry Shifflett of Grottoes; and a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 2pm Wednesday in Riverview Cemetery by the Rev. R. Elwood Pack. The Stuarts Draft VFW Post No. 9339 will serve as pallbearers and will conduct military rites at the graveside. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 pm today in the Waynesboro chapel of Etter Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the Waynesboro First Aid Crew, PO Box 1427, Waynesboro, VA.
