Memorial services were conducted Saturday afternoon for Paul N. Roth, 79, Canby's 1973-77 mayor, the founding pastor of Calvary Mennonite Church, and an ordained minister for 55years. In his memory, the American flag flew at half-staff over Canby City Hall Friday afternoon and Saturday.

He was a native Oregonian, born Sept.8, 1900 on a farm near Albany. His home was in Linn county until his marriage to Velma Burck in Hopewell Mennonite Church, east of her home town of Hubbard on May 13, 1923.

His life ended Wednesday evening, Nov. 28 at his home north of Hubbard, 11 days after his return from hospital testing which disclosed that he had pancreatic cancer in advanced stages.

Devoted to his family, he and Mrs. Roth had with them on his final Sunday all five of their children. They have two sons - Leland Roth of Milwaukie and Paul E. Roth of Canby; and three daughters - Mrs. Frank (Mavis) Morris of Molalla, Mrs. Donald (Ruth) Rabe of Ninety One, and Mrs. Wayne (Winona) Camp of Burnsville, Minn. There are 14 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Services were at 1 p.m. Dec 1 in Calvary church, the Rev. Harry W. Howard officiating. Mrs. Ernie Graham sang and Mrs. Howard was organist. Pastor Roth was laid to rest at at Lincoln Memorial Park in Portland.
