Civil War service: Mark Ballou Perigo Private, Company H, 143rd Infantry Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers / Enlisted August 1862. / Fought in the Battles of Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, The Wilderness, Laurel Hill, Spotsylvania Courthouse, North Anna River, Cold Harbor, before Petersburg, Weldon Railroad, Bethesda Church, and Hatcher's Run. / Was wounded in the right eye by an exploding shell at the battle of Weldon Railroad. / Discharged at Hart's Island, NY on June 12th, 1865. / Was born January 13th, 1836 in Sussex County, New Jersey, the son of Charles B, Perigo and Rachel nee Simpson. / In 1839, the newlywed Perigo family, including 3-year old Mark, relocated to Susquehanna County, PA, residing first at Forest Lake, then Middletown, and finally, Rush Township. Mark's brothers Edward S. Perigo, and A. Judson Perigo also both served in the Civil War. A. Judson was a casualty of the war in Co. B, 17th PA Cavalry;, Edward S. later relocated to Ellis County, Kansas. / Post-war, Mark remained in Susquehanna County for the rest of his life, where he farmed and raised stock. / 1868, January 15- 1st wife, married Brittania nee Turrell of Forest Lake, PA. The couple had at least five daughters- Jennie, Ellen T., Sarah A., Martha and Flora. / 1887, February 20- 1st wife, Britania died at age 47. Mark remarried, to Elmira M. nee Hamlin, also of Forest Lake, PA. / 1897, November 30- 2nd wife, Elmira died at age 47.
