Husband of Mary (Little) Thurmon (1758-1831). Father of twelve children. John fought in the Revolutionary War and his gravesite was recognized by the DAR as being a Revolutionary War soldier in the Continental Line.

Please note: John and his wife are buried side by side at the Thurmon Homestead in Lincoln County, Missouri. There are two visible headstones there for them. Also, there appears to be a marker (cenotaph) that was placed in Warrenton, Warren County, Missouri at the Thurmon-Fuhrer Cemetery, however, John and his wife, Mary (Little) Thurmon, were actually buried at the Thurmon homestead in Lincoln County, Missouri.

John's Rev War Pension Petition that states "Respectfully represents that he was born in Virginia, Albemarle County, on James River in the year of our Lord 1756".
