JANET SPRAGUE
Janet Griffith Sprague, whose father was a Portland General Electric Co. president and whose husband founded Donald M. Drake Co., died Sunday in a Portland hospital. She was 78.
Mrs Sprague was born in Oregon City. She married Mr. Drake, who had founded his general contracting in 1924. He died in 1949. In 1952, Mrs. Sprague married Raymond Sprague of Greenwich, Conn. who at 95 is the oldest member of the New York Stock Exchange.
The Spragues had for several years maintained homes in both Portland Heights and Greenwich. She was a member of town Club, Portland Garden Club, Colonial Dames, and Junior League.
Mrs Sprague was a daughter of Franklin T. Griffith, who during the 1920s, 30s and 40s was PGE president. He also was a president of Portland Traction Co. and of Griffith Rubber Mills.
Surviving Mrs. Sprague in addition to her husband are three sons, Donald Griffith Drake, Franklin Griffith, Mitchell Griffith Drake of Portland; one stepson, Raymond A Sprague of Hillsboro, N.H.; two stepdaughters, Ailsa Fennell of Dallas, Texas, and Muriel Lockwood of West Redding, Conn.; 10 grandchildren and six stepgrandchildren.
The family suggests remembrances be contributions to either Oregon Episcopal Schools, William Temple House, or Trinity Endowment Fund.
