Ezekiel Ewing Simpson was a son of John Simpson and his wife Anne Pickens, who came from South Carolina to Florida around 1814.

Ezekiel was involved with the development of lumber and cotton mills at Bagdad, Santa Rosa County, Florida in antebellum era. He was a partner in the Arcadia Manufacturing Company, the E. E. Simpson Company and the Pensacola Warf Company. He was an active and devout member of the Presbyterian Church.

Ezekiel was twice married, first to Sophia Allen (d. 1847), and second to Susan Alexander Overman (1831-1920, daughter of Benjamin Overman & Eliza Lindsay). He had around 14 children. I am still working on a list of them.

While condidered too old to serve in the Confederate Army (though his father-in-law did), he actively supported the South's efforts for independence, so much so that the federal government put a bounty on his head.

During the War, the family moved to Alabama, but returned to Florida afterward.
