A.B. Marks, former construction superintendent of the Wichita Falls & Southern Railroad was shot by a pistol at short range. The shooting was shrouded in mystery. Four men were participating in a poker game when suddenly, without warning, at least three revolvers were thrown into the tent and shots followed. Mr. Marks sank to the floor mortally wounded at the first shot. Ave Walker of Newcastle, Texas was arrested and confined to jail. No bail was allowed but Mr. Walker was released for lack of evidence. Nine other men were arrested on charges of gambling. An inquest into the matter by the County Attorney and Sheriff suggested hijackers were involved in the murder. There was also some talk of a fight between the men.
Albert Marks lived in Vinita, Oklahoma and his body was prepared for transfer to that location.
Survived by his wife; two children; his aged parents; one brother.
