Rowland was extensively involved in the public affairs of the Town of Falmouth for a significant period of time up and until his death. He was a usual member of various town committees, served as a town Selectman and as town Clerk.

Oct. 29, 1746 at Falmouth as his first wife, Moses Swift, s. of Ephraim Swift & Ruth Hatch of Sandwich, Mass., b. at Sandwich Oct. 4, 1720, He d. at Falmouth, Mass. June 28, 1809, Æ 89. He m. 2) Rachel Parker.
