Josephine Catherine was the fifth born child of nine known children and the youngest daughter of two born to James T. Chamberlain and Sarah Runnels Oliphant Barton.

She married Private James Madison "Pine Know" Livingston on 8 October 1871 in Burnet, Burnet, Texas and together they had ten known children:

3. Thomas Brooks LIVINGSTON SR. (1875 – 1953)
4. Lula Belle (Lou) LIVINGSTON (1877 – 1958)

6. Lawson Ninian LIVINGSTON (1882 – 1964)
7. Margaret LIVINGSTON (1885 – 1885)
8. Angenette (Angie) LIVINGSTON (1886 – 1971)
9. Robert Louis LIVINGSTON (1889 – 1961)
10.William Nelson (Neb) LIVINGSTON (1895 – 1982)

She was a helpmate to her spouse on the family farm when her time allowed, as she was a very busy mother, caring for her large family.

By 1930 she was living with her son, Robert Louis in Burnet. She applied for and received a pension for James' Confederate States Army service during the Civil War on 2 December 1935. It became effective on 1 January 1936 and she received it until her death. She also remained with her son, Robert Louis until her death.
