Eugene A. (Gene) Knotts, 80, was called home by our Lord and Savior, Sept. 11, 2010. "Gene" as he was known by everyone, served his fellow man with humility. He had the gift to know everyone by their first name, and everyone knew his. He had a genuine interest in people and had a kind word to say about everyone.

Born Sept. 21, 1929, Gene was the son of the late former Sheriff Simon A. and Ethel Knotts.

Gene was called to serve our community for thirty-two years in elective office. He was a member of the West Virginia Legislature, Wood County Assessor, and Mayor of Parkersburg. Gene was also the Founder of Knotts Ambulance Service which served our community for many years. He had received distinguishing accolades and awards from all over the state for his tireless efforts and decades of service during his lifetime serving others.

He was a member of Parkview United Methodist Church where his parents were charter members.

He was preceded in death by three sisters: Helen Archer, Sara Shumway and Doris DeSousa; and two brothers: Stan and Paul Knotts.

Gene is survived by his children, Jeffery Gene Knotts, Sharon Butcher and Joyce Stanley; three grandchildren; and his brother, Leland Knotts.

Gene served his fellow man with compassion, understanding, his kindness and generosities towards others are duly noted in the book of life.

"Whatever you do for the least of these you did for me." As a remembrance of "Gene" and for yourselves, please do a random act of kindness.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society, 29th and Poplar Streets, Parkersburg, WV, 26102, and Amedyisys Hospice, 417 Grand Park Dr., Suite 206, Vienna, WV, 26105, for the wonderful work they do.
