Friday Morning November 22, 1957

A 33-yr old truck driver was killed instantly Thursday about 10:55 am in an accident across the highway from the Salt Lake County mulch plant 6700 Wasatch Blvd. (3500 East)

Franklin David Fenstermaker, 33, 2 Staufffer Ln (5660 South), was crushed beneath the vehicle at the bottom of a 20-ft steep embankment. He suffered a crushed chest, punctured lung, fractured jaw, probable fractured back and multiple bruises and abrasions.

Trooper Glenn Hoffman, Utah Highway Patrol, said Mr. Fenstermaker had parked his empty dump truck on the east side of the highway , facing south, with one wheel on the curb of the road. He had left the vehicle out of gear with the motor running while he talked with other county employees parked nearby.

The truck started to roll back-ward across the highway from east to west when Mr Fenstermaker noticed it. He leaped onto the running board just as it was leaving highway opposite the mulch plant.

As the truck plunged, Mr. Fenstermaker was thrown onto a large rock at the base of the embankment and was crushed by the truck.
