Army Veteran Corey Hunter died while rescuing his niece from a pond where he, his son, and niece had been fishing. The former Arizona resident was known for his work with children in the community. He was an active volunteer with local youth groups and was an employee of Jacksonville's recreation department as a senior recreation leader.
Mr. Corey D. Hunter affectionately known as "Chilly" passed away September 12, 2010. He was born February 15, 1972 in Jacksonville, Florida. Mr. Hunter proudly served in the U.S. Military. He was employed by the City of Jacksonville Parks and Recreation Department as a Senior Recreation Leader. He also devoted his time as a coach for Little League Basketball teams, as well as participated with adult softball leagues across the city. Corey leaves to cherish his memories: mother, Karolyn Hunter; one son, Corey Hunter, Jr., devoted friend, LaSonya Pittman; special daughters, Sha'Kia Pittman, Au'yatta Pittman and Keyonta Pittman; God-daughter, Daijah Bennett; four aunts, Marvette Mckoy (New York), Lena Council (North Carolina), Deotis Joyner (Jacksonville, Florida) and ILeene Council (Jacksonville, Florida); one uncle, Joseph Johnson and a host of relatives and many sorrowing friends. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 18, 2010, at 11:00 A.M. at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, 2503 N. Myrtle Avenue, Rev. D. Lattimore, Pastor, Rev. Dr. Levi White, Officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 17, 2010, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the mortuary and in the Church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service.
