Born Franz Friedrich Hoffman,the son of Jacob and Philippine Wagner Hoffman,he emmigrated to England before the year 1891 and became assistant to a master baker of Battersea in the county of London. He followed this profession for the remainder of his life. In 1897, at St. Paul's German Reformed Church, district of Whitechapel, London, he married Friedericke Christiane Marie Kress, also a native of Germany, but from Wuerttemberg. The couple made their home in the Bermondsey district of London until 1907 when they emmigrated to Winnipeg, Canada. Five children were born to them in London and two more sons were born in Winnipeg. In 1916 the family immigrated to the United States where they went first to Livingston, Montana, then to Spokane, Washington and finally settled in Seattle, Washington about 1924. At that time, Frank went to work as a baker for the newly finished Olympic Hotel and remained employed there until his retirement. In 1927 he became a naturalized citizen of the UnitedStates.
