Mrs. Wm. Schaad, Well Known Former Resident, Passes at Nebraska Home

The following obituary of Mrs. William Schaad, well known former resident of Princeville, who passed away at her home near Merna, Nebraska, is taken from The Custer County Chief, Broken Bow, Nebraska, of Thursday October 22:

"This community was saddened by the passing of a pioneer woman. Mrs. William Schaad, at her home west of Merna on Saturday, after a brief illness of pneumonia. Mrs. Shaaad had been in poor health for some time, but her sudden death came as a shock to her family and friends.

"Mary Margaret Whittngham, daughter of Sanford and Eliza Whittingham, was born at Princeville, Peoria county, Illinois, October 19, 1858 and passed away at her home on Cliff Table, Saturday, October 10, 1936, aged 77 years, 11 months and 21 days.

"She came to Nebraska in October of 1887 and filed on a homestead in the northwestern part of Custer county. She was united in marriage to William Schaad, February 6, 1890 and they moved to the present family home where she resided until the time of her death. To this union were born four children, Frederick E., Blanche Hilda, Fern Christina and Mabel Catherine.

"When quite young she acknowledged Christ as her and was baptized in the Christian church at Blandinsville, Illinois. To that faith she was zealous in all her undertakings and was prone to go beyond her strength even in the face of failing health. She was ever ready to help with church work and in time of sickness. She was a great lover of flowers and of the beautiful things in life.

"She leaves to mourn their loss, her husband; one son, Frederick; three daughters, Blanche, and twins Fern and Mabel Coleman, all of Merna; twelve grandchildren; three sister Mrs. Sarah DeBord of Maitland, Mo., Mrs. Clara Miller of Broken Bow and Mrs. Ida Simmons of LaJolla, California; one half-brother, Sylvanus Whittingham of Horton, Kansas. She leaves nieces and nephews, also a number of other relatives and a host of friends. Her loving thoughtfulness, her devotion to her home and church and her loyalty to her friends, leave a memory, which will always endure.

"The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon from the Cliff church with Rev. W. L. Farnham officiating, assisted by Rev. I. M. Phillips. Interment was in the Cliff cemetery."

Mr. and Mrs. John Schaad and sons Ralph and Edwin drove to Nebraska and attended the last rites.
