Born to A.C. McManus (of Ada, Oklahoma) and Betty Polson-McManus (of St. Joseph, Missouri). Completed high school and was a general laborer for most of his life wotking in construction. A sufferer of chronic alcoholism, he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his home. He was single with no children. Surviving family were contacted but who declined to accept any responsibility for his burial. He is buried without marker in Fenders Cemetery, the Potter's Field of Sabine Parish, Louisiana.

Survivors include second cousin Shawn McManus, brother Donald McManus of Sugarloaf, California and brother David McManus.

Interment was graciously provided by Warren Meadows, LLC of Many, Louisiana.

The Sabine Index, the local newspaper, reported:

"A 55-year-old Zwolle man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the face at 6:51 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 31 as he sat in his front yard, according to Deputy Coroner Ron Rivers. Dennis Roy McManus, who lived in a travel trailer behind a residence near the Blue Room in Zwolle, was unemployed and facing legal issues at the time of his death, Rivers said. He ended his life with a.38 caliber handgun. The shot was heard by children nearby, who came to the scene. McManus was discovered still sitting in his chair under a tree, where he spent most days watching time pass and drinking beer. The victim's brother, who resides in California, was contacted about the death. There is reportedly no other family in the area. The body was released to Warren Meadows Funeral Home."
