Avis was born March 16, 1921, in Phoenix, Ariz., to Gerald "Jay" and Faith E. (Bradley) Locke and was a graduate of the former Dyke Business College in Cleveland. On May 2, 1971, she married Robert F. Blum in Willoughby. He entered into rest on May 2, 1982.
She began working as a legal secretary in Cleveland, and then in Los Angeles, Calif., for many years. After her retirement, she worked for the Ohio State Extension office in Millersburg. She had been the editor of the Spindrift column in The Daily Record for many years, and was an artist and a poet.
She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Glenmont, Business and Professional Women's Club, Purple Passions of Holmes County, Killbuck Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Order of Eastern Star and Cleveland Theosophical Society.
Surviving are daughters, Faith A. (Robert) Beliveau of Litchfield Township, Mary E. Jolley and Susan K. Braig, both of Millersburg; an "almost daughter," Julie Wagner of North Olmsted; foster daughters, Jane Stavely of Fort Myers, Fla., and Joyce Hauke of Sandusky; grandsons, Jeffry R. (Dixie) Beliveau of Brunswick, Eugene C. (Donna) Braig of Columbus, and Kevin King of China; step-grandsons, Chuck (Sharie) Jolley and Tim (Tammy) Jolley, both of Millersburg and David (Mary) Jolley of Orrville; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her loving husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, Jack E. Locke, a grandson, Michael Braig Sr., a great-grandson, Michael Braig Jr.; and a son-in-law, Charles C "Bud" Jolley Jr.
