Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the Civil War as a Private in Company F, 100th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery in the repulse of the Confederate assault on Fort Stedman at Petersburg, Virginia on March 25, 1865. His citation reads “Capture of colors of 1st Virginia Infantry (C.S.A.)”. His Medal was issued on July 26, 1871.
