Richard was the fifth generation of his family to live in what, at different dates, was known as Salem, Danvers, So. Danvers, and finally Peabody. He was a store keeper and sadly died bankrupt and intestate. The whereabouts of his original burial is unknown as he died in 1826 before Monumental Cemetery opened. In 1836 one of two sons, either Jonathan W. or George A., bought the plot and erected the monument in memory of their father.
