Madeline was born August 14, 1922, in Wachtebeke, Belgium, to the late Prudant and Camilla (Sey) Schaut. On May 29, 1946, Madeline married Dr. Ernest J. Hecklinski, who preceded her in death on March 17, 1990.
Surviving are her children: a son, Thomas E. (Joyce) Hecklinski of Atlanta, Georgia; her daughters, Diane (Louis) Satenstein of Chappaqua, New York, Jane (John) Dandino of South Bend, Anne (Henry) Hargrove of Spartanburg, South Carolina; four grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren. A brother, Gus Schaut. preceded her in death.
Madeline was a charter member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, and the Retirees Club of St. John Parish. She started girls volleyball at St. John Parish and was a Campfire
Girls leader for many years. Madeline also worked with her husband in his dental practice.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2005, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 26, 2005, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with Rev. James Seculoff officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 3526 St. John Way, South Bend, IN 46628.
