HESSTON — Bertha Ellen Selzer, 85, died Friday (Sept. 10, 2010) at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.She was born on Nov. 30, 1924, in Canton, the daughter of Jacob and Matie (Young) Sommerfeld.She worked as a first-grade teacher at Canton Elementary School, retiring in 1987.She was a former member of the Spring Valley Mennonite Church and a member of the Whitestone Mennonite Church in Hesston.On December 12, 1948, she married Elvin M. Selzer. He survives.Other survivors include three daughters, Diane (Ken) Helmuth of Peoria, Ill., Donna (Raphael) Stokes of South Bend, Ind., and Janet (Bob) Bootman of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.She was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Clarence and Raymond; and a sister, Edna Sommerfeld. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m., with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., today at Miller-Ott Funeral Home in Hesston.Memorial services will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Schowalter Villa Chapel in Hesston, with Pastor Denni Jantzi, Pastor Wendy Miller and Pastor Kurt Horst officiating.Private burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery in Hesston.Memorials may be sent to Schowalter Villa Good Samaritan Fund in care of Miller- Ott Funeral Home, 107 S.
