John Wallick was raised on a farm and remained on the same farm until he moved to Victor, Iowa in the spring of 1865. Once there he became a well known business man dealing in stock and agricultural tools. He built the first grain house and started the first lumber yard in Victor. He and Reuben Randoloph were school board members. They were appointed in June of 1869 "to classify scholars into suitable classes". They were then "to divide the labor of teaching as equally as possible between the two teachers".
