Nina was born Sept. 5, 1914, in Fate, Texas, to William J. and Mary Lou Powell, who preceded her in death. On Nov. 14, 1933, Nina married Robert L. "Bob" Pettit in Levelland, Texas. He passed away June 30, 1979, after 55 years of marriage.
Love keeps us together was our family's theme. Mom was a devoted Christian and this was reflected in the way she raised her family and cared for her friends, especially children. Crocheting afghans was a passion. Those receiving one of her afghans knew they were crocheted with prayers and love. Mom created tasty meals and scrumptious desserts. There was always room for one or two more at the table. Mom was the glue that held our family together. She lived her life to the fullest and wanted her children to do the same. What a legacy she left!
She was also preceded in death by one son, John Robert Pettit, and son-in-law, John D. Wright.
She is survived by one son, Sam Pettit, of Roswell; one daughter, Mary Beth Johnson, and her husband, Kenneth, of Big Spring, Texas; three grandchildren, Mike Pettit, and his wife, Michelle, Amanda Wright, and Melissa Detter, and her husband, Ray; five great-grandchildren, Marc, Jordin, Julie, John Samuel, and Van.
She was a member of Grace Community Church. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to your favorite charity, or Grace Community Church, 935 W. Mescalero Road, Roswell, NM 88201.
