Harriet was the daughter of David and Anna Godwin. She was born in Sampson Co., NC. Shortly after her birth, her parents moved to Randolph Co., GA, settling near the community of Pataula (which is now in Quitman Co.). She married William Henry Snead in Randolph Co. on 25 Aug. 1844. In the fall of 1848, the Sneads moved with Harriet's parents and other families from Randolph Co. to Ringgold in Bienville Psh., LA. Harriet and William H. Snead eventually settled in Red River Psh., and late in their lives, they moved to TX to live near their children who had moved to TX.
