MOUNT SIDNEY - Catherine Marie (Hess) Mitts. 72, widow of Warren E. Mitts of 71 Craig Shop Road, died at 7:10 p.m. Friday (Jan. 11, 2002) at her residence.

She was born on April 21, 1929. in August County a daughter of John and Ruth (Rankin) Hess.

Before retiring, she was an office employee at Southern Electric Corp. She was a member of Middle River Church of the Brethren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on March 18, 1999, and three sisters. Ora Hess, Margaret Rowe and Arlene Beverage.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen D. and Joni Mitts of Mount Sidney; a daughter and son-in-law. Cindy G. and Jim Hostetter of Grottoes; two brothers, John E. of Mount Sidney and Tom Hess of Staunton: two grandchildren, Joni Lavaway and her husband, Neil and Jaimie Hostetter; and two step-grandchildren. Tara and Tyler McDonald.

A service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Middle River Church of the Brethren by the Revs. Chester L. Fisher and Wayne Wright with burial in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Paul Cline, Wallace Wampler, Tommie Powell, Gordon Wright, Danny Garrison, David Beverage and Rick Thornton.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Garrison, Johnnie Sensabaugh, Jeff Rhorbaugh, Buck Hostetter, Leslie Scheffel, Donna Hendricks and the staff of the Hospice of Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 Monday evening in the church and at other times at her residence, 71 Craig Shop Road, Mount Sidney.
