"Hawthorne - Steven A. Scanavino, 75 year old native of the famed ghost town of Bodie, Calif., died Wednesday in a Reno hospital.
Scanavino had been residing in Hawthorne for the last 20 years before being hospitalized in Reno. He was born April 19, 1895.
He was educated at the Scanavino Ranch near Mono Lake.
Scanavino was named superintendent of the Mineral County Power System here in 1952, a position he held for seven years. He worked as an electrical engineer throughout California and Nevada.
He wrote numerous historical articles about the early history of Bodie, Bridgeport and Hawthorne areas.
A veteran of WWI, he was a member of the Knights of Pythias, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his sister, Idelle Thompson of Stockton, Calif.; a brother, Paul Scanavino of Salt Lake City; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A Rosary will be recited Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Hawthorne Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Father William Avelia officiating. BUrial will be in the Bodie Cemetery."
