As a pilot in the 96th, Young flew a Breguet 14 bomber on numerous bombing raids between August 1 and November 4, 1918. Lieutenant Young was the flight leader of the last bombing raid of the war. Then "Captain" Young also co-authored much of the Squadron's history that appears in Gorrell's History.
Following the War, Young stayed in aviation. He was the aviation Manager for Pure Oil for thirty-five years. He was an active in the Early Birds of Aviation, holding a responsible position within that organization. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a lieutenant colonel after World War II.
